August landscapes at Sherburne NWR
A quick trip up to Sherburne in Zimmerman MN yielded some neat landscapes on a hot, hazy day. Most of the prairie was past bloom….
…. although a few species of native grasses sported their delicate flowers.
It was a quiet day for birding with a few sightings of Trumpeter Swans in the wetlands off the wildlife drive trail.
A stretch with more open water had a small grouping of comorants.
I saw very few butterflies, continuing a trend for me this year of not seeing many at all.
Come November Sherburne will be a hot spot for the Sandhill Crane migration….
